KAYAK - SEARCH ENGINE
one of my fav airfare websites (together w/ farecompare); check out their BUZZ (and sign up for their up-to-date email fare reminders; a search engine w/links to purchasing sites; biggest PRO: BUZZ by regions from your own airport; CON: date-sensitivity
FLYERTALK
the biggest frequent travelers' community on the planet; if your friends think you talk MILEAGE too much, well, tell them to check out these guys - they talk mileage promotions, mileage runs, and airline aliances 24/7 (great for ita/sabre/amadeus users)
ORBITZ - SEARCH & BOOKING ENGINE
hm, still an OK site, though it'll usually just conjure up the same prices as the official websites (+$5 for the booking fee);PRO: their flexible search. this, i admit, is probably the only thing worth on orbitz
FARECAST
very cool; it has expanded from only a handful of airports to all domestic airports; will advise you WHEN & WHERE to buy; similar to kayak & farecompare, though probably w/ more stats behind - WARMLY RECOMMENDED!!!
UPGRADE TRAVEL BLOGSPOT
this is *such* a useful site, esp. for hardcore mileage junkies and FTs; as its main contributor, mark ashley, says, its discussions are basically centered around the theme(s) of maximizing comfort, style, and convenience while getting a great airfare deal
AIRFARE WATCHDOG
the site is bragging about offering the lowest prices around & letting you know the earliest; but i just don't like its interface-it's good and basically the same as farecompare, but full of annoying ads & links to pretty much everything in air travel
FARECOMPARE, FARECOMPARE, FARECOMPARE!!!
the neatest & most useful thing you'll find at the moment (it poublishes fares a few hrs before "big" search and booking engines do, lets you compares airlines/departure days/prices, etc., plus it advises you WHEN and WHERE to buy a tck
DREAM MAPS
this is similar to travelocity's DREAM MAPS (it actually hooks up to travelocity) and kayak's BUZZ, though w/ no fancy maps & graphics; for advanced users who know 3 letter airport codes (oh we love to learn those, don't we? lol)
TRAVELOCITY - SEARCH & BOOKING ENGINE
travelocity used to *kick ass* and used to be my fav booking engine; however, now w/ KAYAK & farecompare around, it's lost a lot of points; also, it has also stopped doing the "lowest available" fare for destinations outside the USA, which *sucks*
ITA SOFTWARE - SEARCH ENGINE
pretty much the same as KAYAK; you need to sign up, though - a search engine; once you find the ticket, buy it elsewhere; PRO:searching by booking classes&#of connect.'s; CON: misses several cheaper fares
FLIGHT, CLASS & SEAT AVAILABILITY
Fare Bucket Class and Seat Availability - most of these tools are for *serious* & *very advanced* users (part. FTs &/or MRs); KVS avilability tool rules & supports galileo, amadeus, sabre, and apollo ITN (for flyertalk members only!)
ATTITUDE TRAVEL - LOW COAST AIRLINES OF THE WORLD
all low cost airlines on all 5 continents; an absolute MUST especially for those who will be flying w/in europe; it also lists asian and latin american low cost airlines. *great resource*
GREAT CIRCLE MAPPER
for all those who are MRs (mileage runners) &/or FTs (frequent travellers) and who *care* about their miles (and lounge access & free coupons & companion certificates, etc.) - this gives you approx. nautical miles between any two airports in the world
AIRLINE ROUTES
national and international routes on most major US airlines; this is a great reference for FTs comparing the routes/prices on different alliances or airlines w/in the alliances
SEAT GURU - airplane seating
ever wondered how you can get more legroom if seated in an emergency exit or how close will you be to a TV screen on the aircraft that doesn't offer individual screens? - check it out on the ultimate source for airplane seating; search by airline/aircraft
CTS - CENTRO TURISTICO STUDENTESE
an italian student travel agency w/ branches in france, spain, the uk, and us (NY); esp. good for those traveling from europe to the states (and back) rather than vice versa (for the latter, do studentuniverse or sta)
FLIGHT AWARE - TRACKING ANY FLIGHT ON EARTH LIVE
this is a neat engine, tracking any flight on the planet *live* w/ additional tracking info on past data (up to 4 months for registered users)
MILE MAVEN
an absolute gem for all mileage junkies; displays all current bonus miles promotions for any airline or for all airlines for the service btw/ your any two destinations; also lists fares, ontime performance by airline, and special offers for popular routes
TAXES & SURCHARGES BY AIRLINES AND COUNTRIES
this is such a *neat* engine, giving you info on any tax and surcharge in the airline industry; you can search by airline or by country
STA TRAVEL - STUDENT AIRFARES
a student travel website that will sometimes get you a sweet deal, though it usually won't; check it out but never w/out checking out first the studentuniverse or cts (if you're in europe)
STUDENT UNIVERSE - STUDENT BARGAIN AIRFARE TICKETS
a bargain option if you do a heavy-market (student) route like WAS/NYC-LON or WAS/NYC-BOS, but will cost the same or even more than regular tickets on other routes; ANOTHER CON: kiss goodbye your miles (on most airlines); faculty can use their fares, too
